Of course, you should clean your house regularly, because you live more pleasantly and healthier. How to properly maintain the equipment in your kitchen and bathroom is shown here by caretaker Paul.
Kitchen & Fridge
To prevent clogging, do not pour any solidified waste down the sink, such as melted butter or other fats. Catch these and throw them in the bin. Grease clogs the drain. You can clean your sink with baking soda, pour some of this powder into your sink and use the dishwashing brush to clean the bowl thoroughly. Then rinse with warm water.
You can clean the grids of the extractor in the dishwasher once a week to keep them in good working order. If a bulb in the extractor is broken, you can easily replace it yourself. Remove the grill from the extractor and on the inside you can unclick the plastic screen.
Ice forms on the inside of the freezer compartment in your fridge. If there is a lot of ice inside, your freezer will not work well and the door will not close properly. This can cause it to break down. Defrost the freezing compartment regularly by turning off the fridge. You can do this by turning the button in the fridge to 'zero', the freezing compartment will now defrost.
When the ice starts to thaw slightly, you can easily loosen it with a wooden spatula and throw it into the sink. Wipe the inside dry and clean with a cloth or kitchen paper. Don't forget to switch your fridge back on.
To keep your dishwasher working properly, you should clean and degrease the filter once a month. Remove the filter from the dishwasher, take the parts apart and rinse them well with washing-up liquid.
Then put them back in the dishwasher, tighten well. Tip: Rinse your dirty dishes first before putting them in the dishwasher. Put grease in the bin and not in the sink.
There are three bulbs in the mirror, which you can replace yourself if they are broken. You will need a screwdriver to do this.
Before you start, turn the lamp off by means of the button on the lamp. There are three fastening points that you need to unscrew. Make sure that the plastic screws do not fall into your sinkhole!
You can now unscrew the front of the mirror cover. Replace the bulbs, check if it works again with the button and then put the cover back on.
Then carefully tighten the screws again.
Bathroom & Meter cupboard
The shower drain gets dirty because of hair, skin flakes, shampoo, shaving foam, etc. If you do not clean it properly, it will become blocked and the water will no longer drain. Clean the drain every month by loosening the grate with, for instance, a screwdriver and take the filter out of the drain. The grating can be a bit stiff.
What is in the drain can be really dirty and looks like a thick grey sludge. Remove this with kitchen paper and throw it in the bin, not in the toilet! Then clean the drain with, for example, soda. Sprinkle some soda powder in the drain, clean it with a scouring pad, and rinse with very hot water. Put all the parts back in the drain.
In the cupboard behind the toilet in your bathroom is the meter cupboard, which usually contains your water meter, gas meter and electricity meter. But also the fuse box. If you get a short circuit in your studio, make sure you remove the cause first. This can be caused by the use of a broken extension lead, or too many appliances at once, such as a hairdryer, microwave oven and dishwasher. The handles should be up, except for the spare handle. In the door of the cabinet there is an explanation of the different groups. You can put the handle back up yourself after solving the problem in your studio. Always report the short circuit to the caretaker.
